Bio

I’m a busy single mom trying to forge ahead and make a commitment to writing. Two years ago, I left teaching as an adjunct at a local university in order to pursue my own work and escape the instability of academia. I hope to reinvigorate my passion for this craft and find a way to focus my creative energy. My writing centers on the nuances of life and emphasizes the fact that even the most mundane experience can be a fruitful subject. I also try to find the humor in everything and believe that by recognizing the ridiculousness in our existence we can avoid despair. Pairing both ideas, I wrote one of my favorite essays, “Night of the Coonbell,” which highlights my effort to remove a frozen, half-eaten raccoon from my front porch one winter evening. Growing up and living in a rural setting allows me to share a unique perspective and explore a variety of themes. I earned a Master’s degree in English from the University of South Dakota in 2012 and taught at various local universities for six years. I’ve posted some of my writing on my blog, Countrypolitian, but I haven’t pursued it much further. Currently I work as an administrative specialist and hope to devote more time to my writing.
